CEO tells Putin Aeroflot to sign contracts for 323 Russian planes

MOSCOW, Aug 26 (PRIME) -- Russia’s national flagship air carrier Aeroflot plans to sign contracts for 323 Russian planes, of which two thirds will be the MC-21 medium-range planes, CEO Sergei Alexandrovsky told President Vladimir Putin at a meeting on Friday.

“Now we are majorly focused on preparation of Russia-produced aircraft for flights. We are revising the strategy, and it has been already synchronized the with the industry’s comprehensive development plan until 2030,” he said.

“We plan to strike contracts on a total of 323 locally-made aircraft, including 73 Sukhoi Superjet planes, 210 MC-21 planes, a new model with Russian engines, and 40 Tu-214 planes,” he added.

Aeroflot has received the necessary aid from the government, the measures are sufficient and effective, Alexandrovsky said.

“Besides the passenger traffic subsidy of 50 billion rubles, a 15 billion subsidy was granted so that Aeroflot Group could return tickets, of which we have already received 12.5 billion rubles. A decision was also made to increase the charter capitals of Aeroflot Group and the Aeroflot company to cover our debts,” he said.

Putin said that the government tries to make everything possible to support Russian airlines despite problems.

He also said that the development of technical support and service for the Sukhoi Superjet planes should be a top priority.

Alexandrovsky said that Aeroflot now flies to 111 destinations, by 18 destinations more than in 2021, and the loading increases.
